What exactly do I do here at Dwell Inspired? That is a question I received over the Labor Day weekend. Well, let me tell you.
Here at Dwell Inspired I love working with people who are hesitant about the whole "decorating scene" but deep down know they want improvement for their home. They may appreciate style in other people's homes, but doubt that their home could ever be stylish and inviting.
Others emphatically know they want change, its just a matter of deciding to move forward by taking that first step.
However they come my way, it is always an honor and challenge to work with my clients to improve their space.
In case you haven't had a chance to view my website, I thought it would be a good idea to give you a photo tour of some of my work.
My jobs usually fall into one of the following four categories:
A Simple Rearrange. This is where I create a new plan for your space that consists of different placement of furniture you already own. This often includes rehanging existing wall art and/or bringing furniture and decor from elsewhere in your house to use in your new space. The main thing here is that no new items are purchased.
The following room was redesigned in one visit and took a little over an hour. The man living here had recently moved in and my services had been gifted to him. He was a willing participant for sure, but not necessarily excited I was there or chomping at the bit for change. He had amazing items to work with like custom framed wall hangings, as well as old chairs and lamps that were not being used. No new items were purchased. I thoroughly enjoyed transforming this space!

Here is one more example of a Simple Rearrange. Again, no new items were purchased. I like to look around in basements, closets, hallways, anywhere really, to find unused gems waiting to reach their full potential. There were two beautifully framed paintings just sitting in an unused bedroom upstairs that found a home in this redesign. We also brought in several house plants pulled from other locations in the home. This homeowner has a green thumb!

A Decluttering Rearrange. This is where it is necessary to declutter and scale back your existing items before rearranging can begin. I will encourage you and help you along in this process. My goal for you is to clear out your room and only allow back in what contributes function and/or inspiration to your life.
The following room was redesigned in three visits. This hardworking home schooling mom of three boys was eager and ready for a change that would improve the flow of her life. During my initial visit I simply surveyed the space and took pictures.
On my second visit I brought with me my drawings for the new plan and got to work on decluttering. This took roughly four hours. We removed a lot of accumulated items and placed the furniture in the new layout.
On my third visit I brought with me new wall art for over the couch, a lamp, bulletin board, pillows, and a few other minor accessories that I had picked up second hand for the space. We finished organizing, staged the room, and added finishing touches which took another 2-3 hours. The hard work involved in this redesign made the finished product all the more rewarding.

A Spruce-Up Rearrange. This is where you purchase new items to carry your room to its full potential. I can purchase (for you or with you) wall art, accessories, pillows, accent chairs, mirrors, lamps etc. that will help make your space really come together.
The room below was redesigned in two visits. This sweet family had just moved into their home and didn't already own a lot of stuff. This made them a perfect candidate for sprucing up with new items. There were no large items purchased for this room, mainly just accessories.
On my initial visit I surveyed the space and took pictures. I also walked through the house looking for treasures that could be used in the space. Using this information I went home and drew up the new design.
My client had given me a budget for new items and I set out to find accessories within that budget. I purchased pillows, a side table, a lamp, wall art for above the couch, and a few other accessories to fill the empty bookshelf. I spotted a dresser in the basement on my initial visit and the homeowners carried it upstairs to prepare for my second visit.
On my second visit I placed all the furniture, hung pictures, and accessorized the space. This took 2-3 hours. It was amazing to see the way the homeowner's faces lit up upon seeing the changes to their space.

My own home office that I just completed is also an example of a Spruce-Up Rearrange. You can read more about that redesign here.
This redesign happened over several months. (Hehem...insert crazy life circumstances, a summer full of fun and no schedules, and first trimester pregnancy nausea.) The main ingredient in this redesign? Good old fashioned elbow grease and SPRAY PAINT! There is actually some more painting of furniture I want to do, but for now I decided to just be finished and move on. The rest will happen...eventually. :)
